1. What’s your code?

Don't be an asshat. Pretty simple.

2. Are you a Carl Hiaasen fan, or do you need to drop everything and pick up his books?

Apparently I am going to the Library today.

3. Besides Severance, what else should I watch on Apple TV+?

Sorry no idea, I watched Ted Lasso, and haven't gone there much since.

4. What battles did you skip?

Science Deniers (Vaccines, flat earth, JFK, 9/11, etc). I have no time to waste on these people, you can never ever get past their F-up'd logic.

What hill do you intend to die on?

That a felon and/or sex predator should not be allowed to hold ANY office, at ANY level.

These are A+ answers.

My code is to try to skip any battles with my wife.

1. Everyone starts out with my respect (until they do something to lose it).

2. No, but this salty woman coworker I had once was always reading his stuff, so I should check him out.

3. Severance is one of the greatest shows on right now. I hope it doesn’t jump the shark. This doesn’t answer your question, but it’s all I have to say.

4. My problem is I don’t skip enough battles. I’m working on it.

5. The toilet paper should hang OVER the roll.

You have selected a no-shit hill to die on. In fact, that should be your enforcement mechanism for your OVER TP policy. If you can't go over, you can't sit here.

On a more serious note, I like the respect comment. It reminds me of a friend who always says, "you give respect, to get respect." He's a mensch & that's pretty much his code.

Haha, reminds me of a great meme I’ll send you.

My code came in very handy as a non-profit exec, with several “layers” of staff in my department (hierarchically speaking). So basically, I’ll start out treating you like an adult who came here to actually work and give you the latitude and flexibility that should be given…but if you show up as someone else, you lose those privileges. It was victim services work. Anyone not mature or pulling their weight meant one or more victims being impacted, and that is a terrible and unacceptable thing. Not on my watch.

P.S. I’d like to amend answer #3 and say you should check out Shrinking. It’s delightful, and poignant at times.

Shrinking. Never even heard of it, but will check it out.

Jason Segal, Harrison Ford…they play therapists. Ford is Segal’s crotchety but wise old boss. It’s a good time. Second season was great.

Big fan! So also enjoyed the TV show. I think my code is be kind...but I used to just apply it to my treatment of others, now I try to also apply it to myself. And every day, and probably in the middle of what is going on, I alternate between the serenity prayer, and figuring out "How important is it," when giving myself 10 minutes to rant a day.

This is a wise comment.

I think Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young also had a code. . .

1. What's your code?

BOSCO

2. Carl Hiaasen fan?

Nope, but will check him out.

3. Besides Severance...

I like SILO so far. I'm about halfway thru Season 2. On the other hand, I hated the first three episodes of BEFORE. Which were roughly the same episode, three times. Couldn't watch any more.

4. Battles skipped.

Any of that stuff about EM dashes and the Oxford comma.

5. Hill I intend to die on.

Kent Hrbek pulled Ron Gant off the base in the '91 World Series, thus denying the Atlanta Braves of the Championship.

I think you'll dig Hiassen. Also, skipping em dashes and oxford comma battle is very wise

I downloaded Bad Monkey. Figure I can read it then watch it for comparison…

Been reading Hiaasen books for years. The other fun Florida series is Tim Dorse's Serge books.

Good timing -- I just came across this article: https://www.jacksonville.com/story/news/columns/mark-woods/2025/02/14/carl-hiaasen-talks-about-florida-bad-monkey-and-more-in-jacksonville/78524324007/

I still need to dig into Bad Monkey. My mom, a Florida Woman, recommended it as well.

Re: Apple TV, I strongly encourage you to check out Slow Horses if you haven't dug in yet.

3. Slow Horses, Bad Sisters, Monarch Legacy of Monsters. And it goes without saying so I’ll say it anyway, Ted Lasso. P.S. Loved Bad Monkey.

I did see Ted Lasso during the pandemic. It made me smile, which I needed, but it also sorta left me flat. Perhaps it was just that I watched at a moment whenever around me was saying how great it was and so it was overhyped. I don't know know Monarch Legacy of Monsters, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to watch. Will check out Bad Sisters.

Godzilla and Kurt Russell! What’s not to like. The title is horrible and I have to look it up every time I go to recommendation it. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Watch it on Apple+ now!

1. I’m really kind unless you screw with me or my kids.

2. I had an Uncle Carl. Don’t know the author.

3. As mentioned last time, Fauda. Anything by Taylor Sheridan.

4. Who ate the last brownie.

5. Too many hills. Hoping for a few valleys these days.

Good news for people who like anything by Taylor Sheridan is there's always something new from Taylor Sheridan. That guy is prolific. I watched Sicario recently, which he wrote, it was fantastic, but very violent.

He likes the violence. But his character development is an education.
