You did it again! As soon as I read 'quitting Facebook' in the title, I had to click into the post. I have been wanting to give up my author FB account for a while now. Truth be told, I don't use it for any other reason that a 2nd drop location for my Instagram posts. I rarely engage on FB, so I haven't seen the horrors you have. But that's because I know there are horrors and I don't want them shoved in my face every day. I've also been building up to debuting my author website, but the blog dilemma keeps stopping me. Do I add a blog? Or do I leave the blogging to folks who are good at it? You are good at it. In fact, you inspire me to become good at it. If an essay about Trader Joe's oatmeal with chia keeps me entertained, there must be something thought-provoking I can say about the gluten free chocolate chip waffles that changed my life. What is it with breakfast foods? Oh, and congrats on your wins!
Thank you for the kind words about my blogging! If you count the writing I did on FB (which was very blog-like), I've been doing it for about six or seven years. So to the extent that I'm good at it, I suspect that it's more about practice than anything else.
This piece is fantastic. I LOVED IT. On a related note, I'm quitting Facebook in 2021. I've hated it for years, but the hold up has been the illusion that it's my only connection to certain cherished people from my past. I just realized that I can ask these individuals for alternate contact info, duh. This simple thought may be one of my biggest wins of 2020; got it in just under the wire.
Reading Situation Normal religiously
I believe that's a "win-win."

Thank you! Facebook works REALLY hard to make the illusion feel real. I should probably write about roadblocks to quitting at some point.
